Flax and Teal has grown exponentially since its humble beginnings as a one-person operation in Belfast back in 2013.
What started as a solo endeavour has blossomed into a globally distributed team spanning four locations - Northern Ireland, Bulgaria, India, and California. Our 13-member strong workforce continues to expand, fuelled by a commitment to meeting the ever-evolving needs of our customers across the UK, Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania.
With expertise honed through technical competency groups led by seasoned veterans, we seamlessly bridge time zones and harness best practices to deliver efficient, cutting-edge solutions.

Phil Weir
Founder
As founder and director of Flax & Teal Ltd., Phil Weir brings a unique blend of scientific rigor and technical prowess to the company’s projects and services. Holding a Ph.D. in Python-based mathematical simulation, Phil is an accomplished scientist and web developer with extensive experience in cutting-edge technologies like Kubernetes. One of Northern Ireland’s qualified Kubernetes trainers, he has successfully delivered training programs on Python and Kubernetes, showcasing his deep knowledge in these domains.
Phil’s expertise extends beyond programming into areas like geospatial data analysis and numerical simulations. He has presented his work at prestigious conferences worldwide, including PyCon New Zealand, FEniCS, and the Open Data Science Conference, covering topics such as numerical analysis, web-based simulations, and on-demand data analysis. With his unique skillset and thought leadership, Phil spearheads Flax & Teal’s innovative projects as the lead architect, ensuring robust, scientifically sound solutions.
Alana Murphy
Operations Lead
Alana works as an operations analyst within Flax & Teal, alongside carrying out a lot of our day-to-day duties as a company. Alana has a BSc in social science with quantitative methods and empirical research from Queen’s University. Alana has worked with SPSS, Stata, HTML and Python toolings in data analysis. She co-ordinates our strategy across all our departments.
Andrea Kyurchiev
Full-Stack Developer
Andrea joined Flax & Teal as a free-lance consultant, before coming to work with us permanently as a full-stack developer. He is an experienced and talented developer, working with PHP, Laravel, JavaScript, C-Sharp, VueJS and more. He has experience with both front and back-end development, from initial build to full platform deployment, and is lead developer across our front-end web work.
Dylan Cree
Progressing Developer
Dylan joins our team as a Progressing Software Developer, currently completing his undergraduate in Software Engineering from Ulster University. He has strong experience as a front-end developer, and has worked with technologies such as; Java, React and NextJS. He also has experience working with Python and supporting data ingestion pipelines.
Emma Mulholland
Product Lead
As the Flax & Teal Product Lead, Emma helps organisations understand their big problems, and through user centred design practices and a product mindset, create innovative solutions.
She has over 18 years product and innovation experience across startups and large enterprises in eCommerce, insurance, retail and consultancy. This has included a number of digital transformation programmes, and the creation of an Innovation Lab. Most recently she was a coach on the Catalyst Co-Founders programme.
Outside Flax & Teal - she shares a passion for inclusive innovation through the setup and co-ordination of local meetups and conferences such as ProductTank Belfast, Lean Coffee Belfast, NIDC, and Product Camp Belfast; is an Instructor for Mind the Product, and coaches clients in Product Leadership.
Ellery Ames
Scientific Software Engineer
Ellery joins our team as an experienced Scientific Software Engineer. He has a background in physics and mathematics spanning 11 years, with a PhD from the University of Oregon in Physics. He has experience with computational physics, engineering, mathematical modelling, geo-metric analysis, Python, C/C++ and Kubernetes orchestration. Ellery works primarily on our computational projects, specifically within scientific simulation workflows.
Hristiyana Deliyska
Project & Business Development Manager
Hristiyana is our Project and Business Development Manger, managing our large-scale projects. Hristiyana has a background in economics and international relations and experience with international business development. She liaises closely with clients throughout the project life-cycle to ensure deliverables are met on time and to client satisfaction.
Jana Lorencova
Information Scientist
Jana has joined our team as an Information Scientist, specialising in data cataloguing, adminstration and has an MA in International Relations and Politics from the University of Aberdeen. Jana works closely alongside clients, specifically within our Arches work, ensuring seamless transition from systems.
Kamen Dimitrov
Fullstack Developer
Kamen works as a fullstack software developer within Flax & Teal. He studied Software Engineering in Sofia and has experience with Java, Python, Rust and Go programming languages and back-end development.
He has successfully completed DevOps course from Telerik Academy, and has experience with GIT and Docker. Kamen works extensively on infrastructure pipelines.
Kanika Miglani
Data Science & Analysis
Kanika joined us to add to our machine learning and data science analytics skill-sets. Kanika has a Masters in Mathematics and Statistics from the Indian Institute of Technology and is an experienced data scientist with a background in Python, ML and R.
Kanika has extensive experience mentoring companies to enhance digital transformation and innovation, with client’s stating: “Kanika has been a great help and mentor to Genysys Engine. Thanks to Kanika’s knowledge and guidance we have been able to analyze, learn & expand our Deep Learning models.” She has extensive experience in working with Python and advanced Machine Learning techniques.
May Cheung
Operations Manager / Co-Ordinator
May adds to our operations team with 20 years experience working within the tech and legal sectors. May helps co-ordinate our in-house strategy and operations, and is also currently CFO for OpenUK, highlighting her passion and dedication to open source.
She is also a Director and key volunteer organiser of NIDC (Northern Ireland Developers Conference), having been involved in multiple capacities since the first conference in 2017.
Sharon Ingram
Cloud Architect
Sharon joins our team as an experienced cloud engineer and certified Azure Solutions Architecture and DevOps Expert. She has over 20 years experience within this role and adds to our cloud engineering and computational skill-sets. Sharon also has experience with Kubernetes, .NET, Oracle, Javascript and C-Sharp.
Shauna Fitzsimons
Product Owner
Shauna adds to our team in our data analysis and supporting project / product management tasks. Shauna works on licensing and compliance to ensure the highest standards are met throughout our projects.
Stuart Marshall
Software Developer
Stuart joins our team as a Front-end Software Developer with an extensive background in 3D design, architecture and additive manufacturing. He has experience working in the front-end and backend, including; VR technologies such as Blender, CSS, JavaScript, HMTL, C# and .NET, with expertise in Vue and React. Stuart is a talented and focused web developer, with a focus on design interfaces.
